Things to Do in Trakai: 10 Places Near Prie Trakų Estate
Ten destinations in the Trakai district within a 30-minute drive of Prie Trakų Estate — lakes, manors, nature trails and family activities.

The Trakai district is one of Lithuania's most compact tourist regions: within a 30-minute drive of Prie Trakų Estate in Petkėniškės you'll find an island castle, historical manors, Baltic hillforts, and more than 300 lakes. Here are ten places worth a visit on a long weekend.
1. Trakai Island Castle (~7 km)
Lithuania's icon on Lake Galvė. Half-day visit — the castle itself, the Karaim Ethnographic Museum, and a walk down Karaimų street.
2. Užutrakis Manor and Park (~9 km)
Neo-classical manor and French-style park right on Lake Galvė. Excellent for a picnic or long stroll; classical music concerts in summer.
3. Old Trakai Castle Mound and Church (~12 km)
Birthplace of Vytautas the Great. The gothic church holds a miraculous icon of the Virgin Mary.
4. Bražuolė Hillfort (~14 km)
Baltic defensive hillfort from the 11th–13th century with a sweeping view over Aukštadvaris Regional Park. Short but steep climb — an excellent active morning.
5. Aukštadvaris Regional Park (~22 km)
Rolling glacial hills, lakes and the mythical "Devil's Pit". Hiking trails from 3 to 15 km.
6. Daniliškiai Hillfort and Observation Tower (~18 km)
Less well known, hence usually empty. On clear days you can see Vilnius TV tower.
7. Kayaking on the Verknė River (~25 km)
A clean, playful river that works for beginners. Rental bases offer 2–6-hour routes with return transport.
8. Paluknys Treetop Trail (~18 km)
Family-friendly elevated boardwalk through the forest with interpretive panels and play areas. Wheelchair accessible.
9. Lentvaris and Tyszkiewicz Manor (~12 km)
The landscape park designed by Édouard André is one of the best French-style ensembles in the Baltics. The manor is under restoration, but the park is open.
10. Kibinai in Trakai (~8 km)
The Karaim pastry that made Trakai famous. Try Senoji Kibininė (Karaimų 65) or Kybynlar (Karaimų 29). Always warm, always slow — budget half an hour.

A suggested weekend plan
Saturday — castle in the morning, Užutrakis after lunch, kibinai for dinner. Sunday — Aukštadvaris or Bražuolė hillfort, with a Lentvaris stop on the way back.

Our retreat sits among rolling meadows, forests and lakes — made for anyone worn out by city noise. The more natural and close to nature, the better. You'll find three villas on the estate, and the first one is yours: a spacious modern living area with a dining table and fireplace, a stylish fully-equipped kitchen, and four bedrooms — three with double beds and one with two large bunk beds that the younger guests love (and adults don't mind). A bathroom with shower is right alongside, and a sauna can be booked as an extra. When you arrive you'll likely meet me first — I'm Artūras, the owner. I built this place with my own hands, so I know every corner and I'm happy to show you around and suggest what to see or do nearby. Petkėniškės village sits in one of the most beautiful corners of the Lithuanian countryside — Trakai Castle is close by, and you can easily plan a cycling, horseback or kayaking trip. And if you'd rather stay on the estate, the sports ground is ready for volleyball, basketball or tennis.
